چکیده

Hydatidosis is a parasitic disease caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus. Thoracic and costo-vertebral hydatid cysts are very rare, accounting for 0.18%–1.21% of all cases.1 We report a thoracic and costo-vertebral multivesicular hydatid cyst in a 28-year-old man (Fig. 1A and B). The patient was treated by radical surgery via a posterior approach and anti-parasitic medical treatment for a period of 6 months, and progressed well. Due

Primary Thoracic Wall Hydatid Cyst Extended to the Abdominal wall: A Case Report

Hydatid disease (HD) is an infectious disease caused by echinococcosis. Hydatid cyst (HC) most commonly invades the liver (60-70%) and the lungs (20-25%). However, other parts of the body and even unusual locations can be infected, mimicking a benign lesion that could be easily missed. Primary HC of the chest wall is extremely rare, even in countries where echinococcosis is endemic. We he...

Primary spinal epidural hydatid cyst with intrathoracic extension.

Spinal epidural localization of hydatid cyst is quite rare. We report a case of a 33-year-old patient who experienced paraparesis over 2 years, with an umbilical sensitive level. A CT scan and MRI showed an intrathoracic multilobar lesion, probably of intra-spinal origin. An anterolateral transpleural surgical approach confirmed the hydatic character of the observed lesion and enabled total spi...

Mediastinal hydatid cyst.

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to report our experience in the management of hydatid cysts of the mediastinum. METHODS Among 206 patients who underwent surgery in our department for intrathoracic hydatid cysts between September 2001 and September 2008, 7 patients (3.4%) aged 24 to 49 years (mean, 36.2 years) had mediastinal hydatid cysts. Imaging consisted of chest X-ray and compu...

Spinal Hydatid as a Rare Cause of Posterior Mediastinal Lesion: Understanding Cervicothoracic Sign on Chest Radiography.

BACKGROUND Location of an intrathoracic lesion on chest radiograph is facilitated by application of 'silhouette sign'. This helps narrow down the differential diagnoses. The list of probable diagnoses reduces further on determination of the density of the lesion. A spinal hydatid presents as a fluid-density posterior mediastinal lesion on chest radiograph with destruction of the vertebral body ...

Do the Hydatid Cysts Have Unusual Localization and Dissemination Ways in the Chest Cavity?

We wanted to report our two cases of intrathoracic extrapulmonary hydatid cyst in pleural cavity due to its rarity. Our first case is a 24-year-old male patient who was admitted with a cystic mass lesion consistent with hydatid cyst which was incidentally detected in inferior lobe of the right lung neighboring to thoracic wall and diaphragm. Our second case is a 32-year-old male patient who was...
